THEMES
& IDEAS FOR EVENTS
~
by Robyne Beaubien
This seemed
like an easy subject to tackle. ha-ha-ha! I finally decided to
just list all the themes in event type order and link them to their
own page. This way you can look through the list and find what
interests you quickly. I am also going to keep the pages white
background with black text so that they will be easy to print out.
Many of these are older ideas, ones that my mother did and passed
on to me. Some have been sent to me by other women who are working
in WM around the world. If you would like to submit your ideas
please feel free to e-mail them to us! This is still a work in
progress and I will be adding pages as quickly as I can finish
them.
As we jump in here I want to take a minute and remind you (again!) that although
programs are the emphasis of this part of the site. They should never be
the emphasis of a ministry. Don't do programs just to "do" something.
They will evolve out of needs of people. People are ministry. The purpose
of WM is to disciple, encourage, counsel, and train women to disciple,
encourage, counsel, and train others... You get the idea! The gospel message
should present in every program that you do. This does not mean that every
event should have a "message and invitation". Only that the focus
is for His glory and to share truth. Please keep this in mind and in prayer
as you plan your special events. Here we go...

Themes and Workshop Ideas
Themes: You
can find ideas for retreat themes in all kinds of places, but some
of the best are found in book titles, scripture verses and songs.
A few fun themes I have recently run across are:
1.
Live out Loud - Steven Curtis Chapman song - music decor
2.
Praying God’s Word - Beth Moore book - night/stars decor
3.
The King’s Daughters - book by Diana Hagee - crown decor
4.
Abide in Me - John 15 - grapevine decor
5.
Discover Your Call - Galatians (Spiritual Gifts)
Gifts
analysis and opportunity to explore ministries
of
the church - gifts/presents decor
6.
Sanctuary - song by Twila Paris - a weekend
of
worship - reflection/mirror decor
7.
Garden of Joy - Philippians - gardening decor
8.
A Quiet Encounter - Psalm 46:10 - candle decor
9.
Building Your House - Prov. 14:1 - construction decor
10.
Bride of Christ - Song of Solomon - wedding decor
11.
God’s Laundry Mat - Eph. 5:27 (He washes us, cleanses
us
and we are clean) - laundry decor
12.
Get Out of Jail Free! - “Redeemer” by Nicole Mullen -
monopoly
game decor
Workshops: These
can coordinate with your retreat theme or can just be of general
interest for women. Here are some workshop themes that I thought
were interesting:
1.
Getting it All Together - life organizational skills
2.
Uniquely You - personality/personal style profile
3.
Languages of Love - how we express and receive love
4.
Praying Together - connected women with a prayer
partner
and a plan for praying together for six months
5.
Beauty: Inside-Out - step-by-step facial/makeover with
scripture
analogy for each step
6.
Introduction to Inductive Bible Study - a very quick
Overview
of the IBS method, great for an introduction
to
a Precept study
7.
No More Messy Me - house cleaning and chore tips
8.
Perfect Parents - an assurance that there is no such
animal
and some basic Biblical parenting advice.
9.
Beyond Regret - learning to take the “trash” in our
lives
and let God use it for His glory
10.
A Divine Romance - learning to put your expectations
in
God and not in your husband
11.
What to Do When You Don’t Know What to Do - ways to
help
others who have suffered a great loss
12.
Open Heart, Open Home - reaching out to your neighbors
and
co-workers with small events in your home
Find
some creative people and brainstorm about possible themes and workshop
ideas. Begin by just tossing ideas around and have someone write
every single one down. Trust me, the one you don’t write down may
be the one you really want to use. Then talk about how you would
develop the ideas, possible speakers, songs, scripture, etc.
Find
ways to make your retreat relevant to the women in your church. God
has gifted each of you and given you a heart to serve Him. Ask Him
for inspiration and to open your ears and eyes to unique ways to
minister. He will answer!
